New York City Short-Term Luggage Storage

New York City has several short-term luggage storage providers. With a few exceptions, most are clustered in the triangle formed by the city’s three largest transportation terminals: Grand Central Terminal, the Port Authority Bus Terminal and Penn Station.

Some reasons to consider short-term luggage storage include:

  • You have a long layover and would like to sightsee
  • You arrive in the morning, but cannot check-in to your hotel until the afternoon
  • Your bus, train or flight is delayed
  • Your “light” backpack is no longer light, but you don’t want to go back to your hotel
  • You are coming directly from the airport to meet someone, but do not have time to check-in to your hotel

Although they vary in appearance, these short-term luggage facilities all offer a similar service: providing a safe and worry-free way to store your luggage when you want or need to have your hands free.

If you really want your hands free of luggage, however, we recommend the services of Luggage Free, with whom TripHoney has partnered. Luggage Free will pick up your luggage at your door and deliver it to your final destination, even if it’s on the other side of the world. Door-to-door service. Now that’s hands-free traveling.

For your convenience, we suggest first viewing this map to determine which short-term luggage storage facility is most convenient for you. Click the colored symbols for location names. For a larger view, click the square in the top-right corner of the map.

Private Companies Offering Short-Term Luggage Storage

For the most accurate prices, schedules and location information, please click on the name of each company below.

Short-Term Stow

Perhaps the most elegant location and among the friendliest. They have computers and printers available for your travel-related tasks.

They are located on the 3rd floor of a building without an elevator, but don’t worry. Ring the bell twice if you need assistance. Someone will come down to help you. Ring the bell once if you do not need assistance. The door will simply open.

CBH Luggage Storage

If, for some reason, you need to access your luggage outside of normal business hours, this company will accommodate you. There is an extra fee for this, of course, but you effectively have 24-hour access to your possessions.

This is also the only company that offers a clothes-changing area. You do not have to be a luggage storage customer to change clothes there, but there is a fee.

AIE Business Services

This is the easternmost company in Manhattan. They are located between 2nd and 3rd Avenues. This may be a convenient option if you are closer to the East Side than Midtown.

AIE’s primary businesses include shipping, copying, printing, scanning, internet, mailbox rentals and other business services. Luggage storage is a secondary business for them, but as with the others, they are a safe and reliable option.

Luggage Pub

Luggage Pub works differently from the other services on this list. Instead of physically taking your bags to their luggage storage location, they will pick-up and drop-off your luggage where and when you want within the five boroughs, including New York City airports (but not Newark Airport).

Because they do not have a physical location for you to visit, this company does not appear in the map above. They are available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

Luggage Keeper

Luggage Keeper epitomizes the essence of a short-term luggage business: it is a space where someone receives and watches over your luggage until you return for it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Schwartz Luggage Storage

The largest and most well-known short-term luggage storage company in New York, Schwartz now has three locations. Two in Manhattan and one adjacent to John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) in Queens.

The JFK location offers pick-up and drop-off service.

City Co-Pilot

City Co-Pilot is the only short-term luggage storage business in southern Manhattan. This is the most convenient option if you are staying or moving about in lower Manhattan.

Short-term luggage storage is probably the best thing you can do for your arms, back and enjoyment of New York City. Otherwise, your luggage will start to get heavy very quickly.
